1st International Lipolysis Convention in Salzburg
The first convention on lipolysis therapy organised by the NETWORK was held on 18 and 19 June. The convention was geared particularly to the needs of plastic surgeons. More than 30 doctors from countries all over the world took advantage of this opportunity to find out all about this new form of aesthetic therapy...
Also invited as an observer was Dr. Eisenmann-Klein of the EQUAM Foundation, a body concerned with external quality assurance in the field of medicine.
On the first day, Dr. Hasengschwandtner and Dr. Meissner introduced the theory and practice of injection lipolysis so as to familiarise the participants with the existing NETWORK standards.
The evening leisure programme offered a ride in horse-drawn carriages through the historical Old Town of Salzburg to Europe's oldest restaurant, the St. Peter Stiftskeller. To the accompaniment of classical music, this also provided an opportunity for people from different continents and many different countries to talk and exchange views in a relaxed atmosphere. (Pictures here.)
The agenda for the second day consisted of 11 papers and presentations covering the whole spectrum of the scientific aspects injection lipolysis.
The range of topics extended from molecular biology background by Dr. Ninian Pecket on the theory of fat degradation by lipolysis, to the subject of histology examination (Dr. Diane Duncan), the objectivisation of documentation using ultrasound (Dr. Norek), a presentation relating to blood values and other research topics with cooperation partners (Dr. Hasengschwandtner), the avoidance of treatment errors (Dr. Meissner), and the reduction in side-effects of the therapy (Dr. Lucy Glancey). But also the concrete work of the NETWORK research groups was of a very high standard. Of special interest here were the presentations by Dr. Ogilvie, Dr. Grübmeyer and Dr. Popp, whose work groups had especially looked at the drawbacks and advantages of facial treatment in plastic surgery, liposuction and lipolysis, as well as papers on combination therapies with ultrasonolipolysis (Dr. van der Lugt) and mesotherapy/cellulitis treatment (Dr. Treacy). As at our last Members' Congress, the participants were particularly fascinated by Dr. van der Lugt's results. Click here for more information.
Altogether, the event proved to be a brains trust of people working together to continuously develop the therapy further. So further improvements in the standard of therapy can be confidently expected. The event was rated by all participants as so successful that NETWORK Lipolysis has already decided to hold a 2nd International Lipolysis Convention in 2006. The time and venue will be announced in good time.
