International Scientific Symposium on Injection Lipolysis
The first scientific symposium on the topic of injection lipolysis was held at the weekend in Vienna.
An event with prominent names in the world of medicine and specifically devoted to scientific appraisal of the therapy known as injection lipolysis has just taken place in the Austrian capital. In numerous presentations, the symposium gave doctors and scientists the opportunity to report on the results of their research and studies to date.
The purpose of the event, which was chaired by one of the fathers of liposuction, Dr. Gerhard Sattler of the Rosenpark Clinic in Darmstadt, was to update a select audience of physicians from all parts of the world on the latest status of research. The conference in Vienna was attended by doctors from 12 countries. The list of speakers was made up of leading researchers in the field of lipolysis, e.g. from the Universities of Cairo, Bochum and Regensburg, who reported on their studies and ongoing research projects.
The symposium was also attended by renowned Austrian physicians in the field of aesthetic medicine, including Prof. Dr. Kokoschka of Vienna General Hospital, Dr. Kiprov of Vienna, and Dr. Sandhofer of Linz.
One unanimous finding at the close of the discussion was that a great deal has happened since injection lipolysis set out from Austria on its conquest of Europe in the year 2003. While at that time the first users were viewed very critically, the continuous work of the NETWORK-Lipolysis, the organiser of the symposium, and its scientific and medical director, Dr. Franz Hasengschwandtner of Bad Leonfelden, has resulted in this gentle, minimal-invasive therapy becoming established among aesthetic physicians and acquiring high acceptance among the patients. There are now more than 750 certified doctors throughout the world using the method standardised by the NETWORK-Lipolysis. With the aid of the membership fees, the NETWORK supports studies and publications on lipolysis, and it provides doctors who wish to treat their patients responsibly with comprehensive training in performance of the therapy which is recognised and certified by the German medical registration boards (“Ärztekammern”), and hence ensures a high level of certainty and security for the NETWORK members and their patients alike. And not least deserving of mention is the compilation of anonymised data material on the patients who have undergone the treatment, which allows an up-to-date overview of the successes and limits of the therapy and demonstrates that injection lipolysis can well stand up to comparison with other forms of therapy, with around 2-3 sessions being necessary for a successful treatment outcome. Reduction of the circumference of the abdomen, for example, averages 6 cm. Other body regions that can be very successfully treated include the face, e.g. double chins. More than 92% of all patients who have undergone treatment are satisfied or highly satisfied with the result.
